Who are we?
Teddy Bear Hospital is a worldwide charity that aims to alleviate childhood anxieties surrounding medical environments. Here at the St George’s University of London branch - based in Tooting, South West London - we have over 600 healthcare students volunteering with us to run free clinics for local schools and organisations.
Each clinic comprises of a number of stations that focuses on various aspects of health such as X-ray, vital signs and first aid. All stations have been designed to provide hands on teaching that will give children a greater understanding of healthcare and reduce any associated fears.
At the end of our clinics each child becomes a mini Teddy Doctor and is awarded a certificate by our very own Mr Teddy! We also encourage everyone to bring their own teddy with them so they can learn too and our volunteers are always on hand to cure any poorly soft toys!
Child health and safety is of huge importance to us and every volunteer is CRB checked and NSPCC trained. If you would be interested in having one of our clinics run at your school or organisation or if you are St George’s student and would like to get involved we would love to hear from you. Please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you’d like to get involved with clinics, Teddy Bear Hospital (TBH) runs several training events throughout the year where you learn everything you need to know about becoming a teddy doctor! At Training we go through exactly how a clinic is managed and perform role plays of how to run each of our 12 stations from Ambulance to X-Ray.
For your £15- subs you will receive membership to Teddy Bear Hospital for the entirety of your time at St. George’s, a TBH T-Shirt and an NSPCC course. As we are working with young children we stipulate that you must have completed this course and have had a CRB check (very easily obtained from Student Reception) before you attend any clinics. But once you’ve completed these simple steps you’re a qualified teddy doctor and ready to go on clinics!
If you can’t make clinics, have no fear! Both the Head of Fundraising and Head of Publicity need teams to help them run and organise events throughout the year. So whether you have great ideas for events or you want to help design some posters we’d love for you to get involved!
We are also holding lots of events and talks throughout the year that everyone is welcome to so there’s no excuse not to get involved!
