SKIP

Welcome to SKIP

Students for Kids International Projects (SKIP) was established in 2003, and is a student-led registered charity that operates from 11 universities across the UK. Every year SKIP branches send volunteers around the world to implement sustainable initiatives to improve the lives of children and create a positive change.

SKIP was established at George's in 2009 and since then during that time we have successfully completed four waves of projects to Kenya. Working with the non-governmental organisation Imane Agape Voice of Hope, interventions targeted towards children in the Kiisi region were created and positively received.  Topics included: sanitation and diarrhoea, tuberculosis, malaria and the well-known Project Mwesi.Currently, our branch is seeking to establish a partnership with NGOs in Mumbai, India. Last year SKIP SGUL was nominated by the national charity for “Branch of the Year”.

The aims of SKIP as a national charity are:

  • To improve the health, welfare and education of vulnerable children by:

  • Addressing their immediate welfare and care needs in the short term

  • Helping to facilitate community and local development in order to provide infrastructural support for vulnerable children

  • To work in consultation, cooperation and harmony with a local community to develop sustainable, locally-integrated grassroots projects which can run year-round

  • For all projects to lead to productive outcomes and pass responsibility and ownership to local communities as appropriate

Vision

  • For all children to be cared for and supported in accessing the basic rights of health, welfare and education within their communities.

  • For future professionals to have the awareness, ability and motivation to influence and contribute to global development

Mission

  • To support vulnerable and impoverished children and communities worldwide

  • To promote the personal and professional development of students.

  • To educate and empower students to initiate and maintain sustainable community integrated projects
