Welcome to PARASOC
PARASOC was started in 2018 and rebooted in 2019, with the aim to show off the paramedic profession to all courses at St George's. Whilst our membership is primarily students on the Paramedic Science degree, we are open to all students at St George's. If you’re interested in the world of PHEM, emergency medicine in general or community healthcare, then you’ll come into contact with paramedics, and PARASOC will give you the introduction you need to know what we’re capable of.
WHAT IS PARASOC?
PARASOC organise free talks for our members on a range of topics, delivered by both St George's staff and students as well as external speakers. Whilst COVID-19 has put a strain on our society's plans, we are using online sessions as a replacement for in person talks and as soon as we are able to we plan on bringing back our visits. With teams behind Air Ambulances, Hazardous Areas Response Teams, Joint/Tactical Response Units and more, we are not short of areas of interest for all. We’ve previously visited the busiest RNLI station in the UK, had speakers who are specialist practioners in mental health, motorcycle response units and more, and we aim to build on these successes year on year. PLANS FOR 2020/21
We’re currently running a lecture series that shows all the different careers available post paramedic registration. Check out our Facebook and Instagram pages for more details on what and when, but we’re aiming for a talk on most Thursday evenings before Christmas.
Come and join us!
Membership to the society is £1 per year, and that includes all talks and socials. For events, we distribute tickets fairly, and any additional costs for each visit will be split amongst those attending. We aim to keep costs as low as possible as we don’t want to restrict anyone’s ability to see what paramedicine is, and where it’s going.
