The St George's Mindfulness Society aims to give St George's students opportunities to engage in Mindfulness meditation and practice.
Mindfulness is simply about being more present in each moment, being more aware of ourselves, other people and the world around us. Being mindful involves paying attention to the present moment and observing it in a non-judgmental way, and helps us learn to accept whatever life brings us - including our own thoughts and emotions - and live more happily and peacefully.
Mindfulness is completely secular, and therapies based on mindfulness are prescribed on the NHS for stress, anxiety and addiction. The GMC now recommend that all medical schools provide mindfulness for their students - it is the perfect antidote for the stress of being a student. Cultivating mindfulness now will help build your resilience in whatever career you plan on for the future!
We run 1 session a week for most of the year. Our sessions are a mixture of discussion, guided meditations and experiential mindfulness such as practicing to be mindful while moving or eating. Our sessions are normally drop-ins, and open to beginners and experts.
Yearly membership is just £1, which gets you into all our regular sessions. We sometimes run courses over several weeks, or special events, and these have a small additional cost. Finally, we always have tea and cake after our sessions!
We hope to see you soon!
