Another update to keep everyone informed about how Georges Rugby is moving forward.
With the latest victory over the mighty GKT under our belts we look forward to finals day on the 11th of March. This is the first time since the ‘70s that we have made it to the final and it is over a century since we have won (since 1882 in fact!). This is obviously a very exciting time for the club, and for George’s as a whole. There is much work to be done before the 11th arrives, but we are underway and our work-ethic, dedication to the game and to the badge will help us through.
With training sessions planned, buses being booked to transport the hoards of fans to the pitch (Richmond Athletics Ground btw) and game plans being drawn up there is a positive buzz around the club with the heart and spirit of the dragon present in us all. I must take a few moments to acknowledge the phenomenal effort that has been put in by all those men that pull on a jersey of green and gold. The work is by no means near complete, but if we continue our endeavors in a similar vein, with our insatiable hunger for victory then the result and hence the history books shall write themselves.
All that is left to do is ask you, our 16th man, to take yourself to Richmond on the 11th and help contribute to what will be a historic night for George’s. The effort that was made by the travelling fans has helped us get this far in the UH cup, and will further input it will (hopefully) help us realise a long awaited dream.
Yours,
Ollie Rupar

A word from Skip:
After a year or so in the dark (with a limited or out of date website) the committee have done an excellent job in resurrecting the George’s Men’s Rugby website. This small piece is to keep members (old and new as well as potential FUTURE participants) in-the-loop with respect to all things rugby.
After a tough start to the post Christmas half of the season, training is back on (1830 meet at med school, 1900 at our host club: Wimbledon) and the squad is looking to continue the excellent progress laid down in the early half of the season. However some unfortunate, but necessary, distractions (exams, etc) are currently laying siege to most of the 1st and 2nd years in the squad. With a corresponding decrease in the numbers making training, I cite the “healthy body, healthy mind” approach to academia as one evening per week sacrificed to the noble game will bring untold benefits to any studious students’ results.
As the junior years struggle through their initial exams, the more senior members of the squad are to be celebrated this term with the odd “memorial curry” evening to remember the good times, the bad times, and the soon to be distant times of George’s rugby. Social events like these help this close knit club to gel, with the forging and strengthening of bonds between club members new and old. All of this is done with the odd rousing sing-along, toasts of success to all at the table, and the odd game or two . Dress code, location and themes are confirmed nearer the time.
If you have any queries, questions or would like to discuss George’s at all then do not hesitate to contact me or any member of the committee. As a GEP leading the rabble that consists of the 5 years has helped me gain an insight to both courses and I am sure that a query regarding applications (to either program) could be dealt with swiftly and efficiently by either myself, other GEPs, or a friendly 5year (they don’t bite, honestly!). Who could be better to give advice than those that have gone just before you?
A shock win in the UH cup this year (defeating favourites Barts) is a testament to work ethic, dedication and skills that will be celebrated for years to come. And so, on to further rugby greatness!
