Welcome to St George's Hospital Boat Club

St George's Hospital Boat Club has been rowing on the Thames and representing St George’s, University of London since 1839. We take part in various competitions throughout the year, from United Hospitals events (London medical schools) to HORR/WeHORR and BUCS. We welcome all abilities, and most people joining the club have never rowed or coxed before. New rowers join our novice squad, under the guidance of our vice captains, to master the basics before joining the senior crews. Our cox captain is responsible for training new coxes and continuing the development of more experienced coxes.

Recent achievements

Our women’s fresher VIII came first in the United Hospitals 2022 Winter Regatta bringing lots of medals back to Tooting. A few of our finest women rowers and coxes represented UH at the 2022 Henley Women's Regatta and came top 20 in the academic VIII category and top 16 in the IV+. Not only this but our alumni women got blades in BUMPS 2022 - so you should be able to see their names up in the games room shortly. In 2021 we were fortunate enough to send a Men’s fresher IV+ to BUCS where they came 12th.

Come and join us!

Water training takes place twice a week (initially once a week for novices) at the University of London Boat Club in Chiswick, on Wednesdays and Saturdays for the women and Wednesdays and Sundays for the men. The captains also set a program of land training sessions which take place on various weekday evenings at the Rob Lowe Sports Centre on-site at St George’s.

We also hold regular social events, from Circles after training on Wednesdays in the SU Bar, to meals at local restaurants and more formal dinners. A regular tradition is our annual weekend trip to a surprise destination! If you have any questions about any of this, please message us on our Instagram or on our Facebook page

We hope to see you soon!

Freshers day on the River will take place on Wednesday 27th September, 2017. It will be a great opportunity to try a little bit of rowing, meet people within the boat club and enjoy a BBQ and drinks overlooking the Thames.

We will pick you up from uni and take everyone on a coach to the boat club before dropping you back at George's just in time for circles.

We are still organising the finer details of the day so keep checking back as we will post the times soon.
