Award winning app

Alumnus wins 'Children's App of the Year'

St George’s alumnus, Dr Tamsin Brown, recently won ‘Children’s App of the Year’ at the UK App Awards. Dr Brown designed the ‘Hear Glue Ear’ app which helps children with their development while recovering from the condition Glue Ear.

On winning the award, Tamsin commented, “I was so overwhelmed, I was fighting back tears! And then I was expected to give a speech! It was difficult to talk but I managed so say the bits that were important to me such as how important it is to identify children who have a hearing loss in order to improve their life chances.

“My daughter Lilac came with me to the event (despite it being a school night) and also spoke into the microphone - she said “my mum has worked really hard on this and I think this has made her really happy.”

Tamsin hopes the win will help the app’s adoption across the country, “The UK app awards are prestigious, so hopefully the win gives credibility to the app and helps with its adoption into clinical pathways. I also hope that it will help with its translation into other languages and with the app potentially being adopted in other countries”
