SGUL First Aid Society
- Can you spot someone having a heart attack?
- How do you deal with someone bleeding badly?
- What do you do when you come across your friend lying unconscious in the street?
- A mother is screaming, their child is choking: they're looking at you: what are you going to do?
Welcome to the St George’s student branch of St John Ambulance! We offer first aid training to students with the simple goal that no one should die needlessly due to a lack of first aid. No matter what course you are studying here at St George's, we give you the training to save lives, we support you as you develop your skills, and we allow you to practise alongside experienced first aiders, medical technicians, paramedics, nurses and doctors at some of London's biggest and most renowned events. If you’re a medical or nursing student, you get to be hands on with patient contact before the rest of your class; as well as the chance to use your clinical skills on duty too. We cover a wide varity of events, big and small, all over London such as:
- Local school fairs, sporting events, concerts and shows
- Arsenal, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Queens Park Rangers, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and various other London Football Clubs
- Wimbledon Tennis
- Lords Cricket Grounds
- Twickenham Stadium
- Hyde Park, Trafalgar Square & Central London concerts and events
- New Year Celebrations
- London Marathon
- Remembrance Sunday
- Notting Hill Carnival

We meet every Thursday in one of the lecture theatres or boardrooms (please see below for details of the next meeting). Each week we are teaching new skills, running scenario night or go out for a social of some sorts. Our sessions are led by an experienced member of the unit and cover many of the skills that you will find useful on duty – with the occasional guest speaker with a specialist background coming in to give us a visit. Plenty of food is always provided. Not only that we only charge a small £10 lifetime membership: pay once for however many years you are with us.
We believe that it’s unacceptable that 140,000 people die each year because no one could give them first aid when they needed it: that's the same number that die from cancer each year. We train you so that YOU can be the difference between a LIFE LOST and a LIFE SAVED.
If you do have any questions about SGUL LINKS or St John Ambulance or wish to join us, feel free to ask any of the committee members or drop us an email - we are always more than happy to help and are here to listen in a confidential manner. If you already volunteer with St John and would like to transfer your membership or retain dual membership, please email us!.
