If you cannot find a club or society that you are interested in, or you are an expert in something you wish to share with the George's masses, why not set up a new club/society?
Here is how you go about doing it...
The step-by-step guide on setting up a new society:
Send the Societies Officers a short email (societies@su.sgul.ac.uk) expressing your interest, intentions and passion!
-
They will contact you to tell you if your application is likely to be successful. Don't carry on with the rest of these steps before you get the ok from them!
-
If they give you the go-ahead, you need to submit a proposal to the Students' Union Exec Committee as follows...
-
Complete a constitution for your society. Download the form for this here.
-
Go and see Tariq Gondal (Vice President; Finance & Student Activities. vpfinance@su.sgul.ac.uk) in the Exec Office on Level Two with a detailed budget plan; he will go through it with you and let you know about any changes you need to make to it in order for it to be passed.
-
You are required to have documented interest of membership in your potential society; you can do this by putting up sign up sheets or asking David Holland and Daniel Trotman the Media Officers (media@su.sgul.ac.uk) to include a short message in her weekly email bulletin.
-
Put together a detailed agenda of the planned activities of your society
-
When you have collected all of the above, email the SU General Secretary (Naim Slim, secretary@su.sgul.ac.uk) to ask her to put the proposal on the agenda of the next fortnightly meeting.
-
You are then invited to come to the Exec meeting and present your case.
-
The Exec will look through all the documents you have submitted, ask you any questions they feel are appropriate and discuss your proposal.
-
A vote will be taken and a decision taken as to whether to accept the proposal.
Good luck!!
