South Devon Healthcare Foundation Trust in Torquay presents "A Foundation of Excellence."

This free national conference on Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th October 2013 is aimed at medical students in their final 2 years to provide you with the tips, inside knowledge and skills to start the Foundation Programme with confidence.

Students will be offered the chance to present and a chance to win the “Torbay Medical Student Prize.” Deadline for abstracts is Sunday 1^st September; abstract submission forms can be found on the website.

A limited amount of bursaries are available for students outside of the area to cover accommodation and the social event. Please see the application form for more details.

I am putting on a 'Careers in Medicine' event for sixth form students who are all keen to study medicine. The event is at UCL on the 26th June and I am looking for students and lecturers to mentor students through suture practice and talk to them about why you are studying medicine, what the course entails, what you hope to do next after University, including any areas of specialism.

We have the suture kits already, however it would be great if volunteers from the society can help between 14-15.30 on the 26th June. If you can please email or call me,

A conference, organised for undergraduate students, by undergraduate students, that will be held on the
9th November 2013. We are currently looking for people who would like to
submit papers to present at the conference. This can be a piece of work that
they feel proud of or a dissertation that they have recently completed. 
The conference title is:

DEVELOPMENT IN AN UNEQUAL WORLD: IS THERE A PATH TO GLOBAL EQUALITY?

However, people from a wide variety of discourses are welcome and the greater
variety the better. 

We are looking for graduates to give them an opportunity to send an 
abstract of their work which potentially could be presented at the conference.

We would like to invite all healthcare students to join us at the 3rd International Conference for Healthcare and Medical Students (ICHAMS) event which will be held in The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland on October 11th and 12th 2013.

ICHAMS is a student led research conference for students, supported by RCSI faculty.The conference provides students with the opportunity to present their research in an international setting with structured feedback. The conference aims to promote interactions among healthcare students from different countries as well as the exchange of research knowledge and experiences. The two day event includes poster and oral presentations, keynote speakers, workshops, a gala dinner, welcome reception and walking tour of Dublin. Abstracts from the previous two ICHAMS conferences have been published in BioMed Central Proceedings.

This year Dr.Graham McMahon, Associate Professor of Endocrinology at Harvard Medical School and Editor for Medical Education at The New England Journal of Medicine will speak to students about the role journals play in advancing medicine.

Registration for the conference is now open and abstract submission will open shortly. All details can be found on our website ichams.org.

So having followed on from the initial interest that was shown for Thorpe Park, the first year representatives are organising a day trip out to Thorpe Park, one of the UK’s best theme parks available, on the 28^th of June since this date seems to suit the majority of the courses. This will provide an opportunity for everyone to broaden their connections with people from other courses working in the same fields.

The arrangement of the day will involve a coach picking us up outside the university taking us directly to Thorpe park and then getting dropped off back at the university in the evening.

Date: 28/06/2013
Meet up location: St George’s University
Meet up time: 08:30 (As we would be travelling by coach and want to make sure we get there for slightly before the opening time to make the most of the day)
Departure time: 18:20 (Thorpe park closes at 18:00)
Price: £40 per person (includes ticket and coach travel costs) or £26 per person (excluding coach travel)
Deadline for payments: 14/06/2013 by 15:00 but please don't leave it until the last minute.

This option for £40 only works out slightly more expensive than taking public transport to Thorpe Park but it is a lot more convenient and it guarantees you entry (unlike the 2-for-1 tickets).

The National Surgical Symposium is a volunteer led two-day event to 
promote and improve surgical research. It is a fantastic chance for 
students to present their work to colleagues and other trainees from 
across the country.

There will also be several talks on surgical training, careers,
