Overseas Students

As an international student you can face some difficulties. You have arrived to study in a country which may be culturally very different from what you are used to. Being a long way from your home and family can lead to feelings of isolation and loneliness. However, coming to London to study from abroad is both a brave and exciting thing to do and will hopefully prove worth all the effort! If you do run into difficulties, you could always track down other overseas students to talk to. We also have an International Student Society at St. George’s, so it might be a good idea to talk to one of the members or attend one of their meetings.

International Students House (ISH) is a unique club and living centre for British and international students which is situated near Regents Park in the heart of London. It exists to help international students achieve the academic and personal goals they have brought with them to the UK.

It also houses British students, thus allowing them an opportunity to broaden their horizons through friendship with people from widely differing backgrounds and cultures. International Students House makes an effective contribution to better international understanding.

Club membership is open to all full-time students and entitles you to use the various facilities: restaurants, bars, study rooms, clubs and societies, fitness centre (at a reduced rate), discos, dance, jazz and cinema. There is also an extensive range of multicultural activities and a travel club which organises day trips and weekend excursions to places of interest throughout the year.

ISH also provides the services of an international student adviser to provide support to help students overcome any personal or practical difficulties they may experience whilst studying in Britain. For an appointment (Mon-Thurs until 8pm) ring 020-7631-8369.
